On Friday night Mr. Brian Cowan, former student and former Taoiseach, delivered the keynote speech at the inaugural Fr. Peter Garvey Memorial lecture held in the Recreation Hall. In his speech Brian gave his reflections on the Good Friday Agreement – 20 years on. Fr. Peter’s family were all in attendance along with members of the monastic community, present and past staff, parents and students. Dom Malachy made a presentation to Brian of a framed photograph of the late Fr. Peter and Brian together. The photograph was taken in the cloisters during a visit that Brian made to the  monastery. Thank you to all who helped organise this event and a particular word of thanks to the Garvey family for their attendance and to Brian for giving of his time to prepare his lecture and for taking questions from the floor afterwards.
